What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.
Ok, so what exactly is TED.com?
Ted.com is this incredible site that houses thousands of videos 20 minutes or less. These range in topic from the study of the brain to the education system to the fish that swim at the bottom of the ocean. Experts from all over the world condense their life work into a short video for you. If someone has an idea worth spreading, you can probably find it on the TED site.
How will this site benefit me?
Think about all those times you eat dinner in front of the TV, or just have a few minutes to kill before going out with your friends. What if instead of just wasting that time, you watched a video to inspire you. These videos can introduce you to subjects you may never have even touched otherwise. With videos as short as 3 minutes, there is no excuse for not having enough time to watch one. They have great mobile apps so its as easy as popping out your iPhone or iPad and picking your desired topic. Make this a habit and you will thank yourself for it.
